In Valga, along the border with Latvia, an architecturally unique school building was recently constructed. What makes it unique is the façade, which is reminiscent of a honeycomb. The simple and bright atmosphere inside the building is pleasing, and seminar and conference rooms are also available for rent by interested parties. In particular, the large window surfaces in the stairwell catch the eye upon entry.
Unique architecture – extraordinary energy efficiency!
The Vocational Training Centre is the first very energy efficient school building in Estonia. The object presented a challenge to all project participants, since the average air temperature in Estonia is below 0° C for four months of the year. Architecture firm Sirkel & Mall, from Tallinn, were presented at the start with the following ambitious goal: the energy cost per square metre for heating and cooling could not exceed 120 kw/h.
The designers as well as the builders were presented with a considerable challenge when it came to developing, tying together and thereafter implementing suitable solutions; with the result being the construction of a school building in Valga that is architecturally impressive and also executed with a high degree of technical precision.
The windows were manufactured by SeiCom OÜ in 2011.
